In reality, I’d never spill tea. Not purposely, anyway. I’m a klutz, so accidents happen.
Ok, I realize I’m being (deliberately) obtuse here. I know that “spilling the tea” has nothing to do with the effects of gravity on brewed beverages. I did, however, want a semi-clever way to introduce a post about my favorite drink 😀
As a kid, my mom always woke my sister and I up for school with a cup of tea – Lipton tea, to be exact, made with milk and sugar. I’d love to claim that this daily dose of caffeine stunted my growth and is the reason I’m only 5’1″, but the fact that my sister was raised the same and is 5’9″ would seem to disprove that. I digress.
This daily ritual softened the blow of being woken up usually well before I was ready to (I’m a night-owl, through and through) and now well into adulthood, tea remains a source of comfort, contentment, and joy for me. It’s also a source of obsession, judging by the amount of tea I currently own (most of which was gotten while I worked at a tea shop), and the fact that I have a bright, bold tea-themed tattoo that runs from my right wrist to my elbow, but again – I digress.
I’ve not been feeling well the past few days, and the amount of tea I’ve consumed as a result is positively heroic. Mostly herbal (which, ok, technically isn’t tea, but I won’t get pedantic here) but some other brews, too. Right now, I’m sipping on a positively delightful cup of a Harney & Sons tea blend called Paris. Ever had Earl Grey tea? Imagine that, but with an added scent and flavor of vanilla and currants. It’s more complex a flavor than a cup of Lipton, but with the addition of milk and sugar, it’s familiar and just as comforting. I’m drinking it hot, but I can imagine this over ice on a really hot day; it would be incredibly refreshing!
I don’t think I set out to do a tea review here, and honestly, as far as reviews go, this probably isn’t helpful or very good. But it kind of gives me an idea that maybe tea reviews would be a fun part of this blog. Goodness knows, I have enough tea I could review, and if I thought about it, I could probably go on at length about any of them. So who knows?
At any rate. It’s late on a Wednesday night and I have a headache. I’ve been watching Ordinary Sausage videos on YouTube for hours, and that’s probably an indication that I should have gone to bed a while ago. So I’ll finish up this cup and then hit the hay. And maybe have another cup in the morning!
